Hiya! We’ve actually been getting this question a lot, so don’t feel like you’re alone in wondering. The reason a request might have two ships is because it’s the only way for A03 to allow someone to request 20 ships or because some people like to double up for organizational purposes. But that doesn’t mean you need to gift for both (though I’m sure your giftee won’t complain if you do).

TL;DR: You only need to gift for one ship, even if the request lists two.

Not every MEA pairing involves a Ryder. When that happens, requesters aren’t allowed to dictate the gender of the Pathfinder Ryder. When NPC Ryder is involved in the pairing, the gender is specified in the nomination and thus okay, also making the Pathfinder Ryder’s gender a given. To put it in simpler terms: Non-Ryder + Non-Ryder=No Gender Requests For Pathfinder. NPC-Ryder + Non-Ryder=Opposite Gender For Pathfinder. Apologies for the confusion this late ruling has caused.

Thank you, anon, for bringing up world states. This falls under our “no customization” rule that we came up with after much deliberation. We apologize for the late entry into the exchange rules. Our stance is that the focus on this exchange is on the NPCs and not Shepard. The official Bioware novels and comics didn’t gender Shepard and maybe next year we’ll enact a rule of no gendered Shepards, but for now, it’s up to the creator’s discretion.
